Ask Annie: Looking for Positives

Day 63, and I am home. What am I doing with my time?

I have been reflecting upon my 27 years as a real estate broker, on the close relationships I have formed, and decided I had further interest in reconnecting with those whom I had not been in contact.

As people are learning new skills, I decided to expand upon the one I love and do best, reaching out to my community of people. To the ones I have not spoken to recently, and to the ones I have never met!

My beginning: I reached out to my roommate from my freshman year at Penn State University to see where she was and what she was up to. Lisa Lugar – who turned me on to Judy Collins and my favorite song, Both Sides Now – is in Scranton, PA with her husband. Like me, they are in self quarantine.

“Where is your daughter?” I asked.

“In New York City, right across the park from you!” Lisa told me.

Lindsay Landman, Lisa’s daughter, is married and lives with her husband and two sons on the Upper West Side. I had followed her on Facebook, but now time to meet! I made a virtual date. Lindsay and I are now connected. I want to present Lindsay.

Lindsay and her family.

Fascinating…Lindsay went to UPenn and moved to New York in 1998 with her now husband. She became an Event Planner. She’s a relationship person – just like me. She began her career doing a 90th birthday party for someone she met at a networking breakfast, and at that party, a guest asked her to plan her wedding.

That was in 2002. Today, Lindsay is recognized as one of the world’s top Event Planners by the likes of Vogue and Harper’s Bazaar.

I thought, it would be great to think about all the great auspicious occasions for which we could use an Event Planner to make it a touch more exciting.

Do you have any plans?

A wedding Lindsay planned in the Hall of Ocean Life (aka The Whale Room!) at Manhattan’s American Museum of Natural History.

Lindsay’s sons are 13 and 16 – products of New York’s finest public schools – and currently hunkered down in quarantine, virtually attending classes. Her husband is in technology, working from home.

Lindsay said, “We have never had such fabulous home time.”

I listened intently while Lindsay told me about her company, her two offices, which provide East and West Coast visibility.

“No event is too small or too big, it’s all about connecting people.”

So – what postive energy do you have to share? Positive events to look forward to? Let’s look together…
