Chelsea has an abundance of riches: Hudson Yards, the High Line, Chelsea Market, a solid stretch of the Hudson River Park, roughly 200 art galleries, a panoply of restaurants and nightspots. At one time it was a gritty, industrial area dominated by factories, warehouses, breweries, and tenements.
By the mid-20th century, thanks in large part to the iconic Hotel Chelsea, the likes of Bob Dylan, Tennessee Williams, Stanley Kubrick, Jasper Johns, Leonard Cohen, Arthur Miller, and Patti Smith lived and worked here.
