The retail spaces in the neighborhood are more likely to be filled with bars and restaurants than shoppy shops, but there are a handful of unique places catering to the more upscale buyer. And of course there are some larger format stores and national chains centered around Columbus Circle, but if that isn’t enough, 5th Avenue in Midtown East is a short walk, and Hudson Yards just south of Hell’s Kitchen.
The Shops at Columbus Circle
When they opened 20 years ago, the shops at Columbus Circle were decidedly the fanciest mall in the city, setting a trend that saw other upscale, suburban-style malls sprout up in places like Hudson Yards and World Trade Center. Columbus Circle remains a high-end retail experience, but also offers practicality from the Whole Foods in the basement to the fast fashion shops like H&M, J. Crew, and Hugo Boss. Whether you need a last minute Le Creuset dutch oven from Williams Sonoma, or simple nostalgia for being a teenager wandering the mall on a Saturday afternoon, Columbus Circle has you covered.
Nordstrom Flagship
Located in the base of the supertall Central Park Tower, Nordstrom’s flagship New York City location offers services like alterations, personal shoppers, and stylists. Or, for less personal but faster service, order online and pickup in-store on the same day. And don’t miss the dedicated men’s store just across Broadway.
Domus Unaffected Living
This destination for decor and homegoods has a curated selection of high quality products chosen for their sustainability and integrity. Many of the products are handmade around the world with the intent of directly benefiting the people manufacturing the items.
Delphinium Home
The store began as a card and gift shop in 1996 before expanding to include accessories and home decor over the years. Now the shop is a destination for curated objects for house, body, and mind. There’s light-hearted gifts, coffee table books, and a children’s section, plus a unique collection of holiday ornaments and decor.
PDL Vintage
This men’s vintage clothing shop has a selection ranging from the mid-century to the early 2000s. The shop’s stock includes graphic t-shirts, denim, and sports paraphernalia, all perfect for a night out or traveling back in time.
Fine and Dandy
For a more refined menswear experience, check out Fine and Dandy. As the name implies, the shop is intended for well-dressed men offering a full line of dapper accessories including cummerbunds, collar bars, neckerchiefs, garters, socks, and dog collars. What started as a series of pop-up shops in 2008 eventually became a brick and mortar store. The accessories are made in the U.S.A., as are the shop’s custom shirts.
