Long dubbed the Silk Stocking District for its residents, the Upper East Side is a haven for those who prefer morning strolls or bike rides in a leafy park to late nights at a noisy club (though there are plenty of spots to enjoy a nightcap or three). Some love it for being quieter and slower-paced than much of the rest of Manhattan, as well as for its being home to a number of schools, including Brearley, Chapin, and Spence. Dog-owners appreciate the Carl Schurz Park Dog Run and other canine-friendly areas, while fashionistas adore the wealth of chic shops. And just about everyone enjoys being just a stroll away from Central Park and some of the most prestigious museums of not just the city but the world.
