Whether you prefer the great outdoors or the fine arts, spending a day at a playground with your kids or savoring cocktails at night with friends, you’ll love living in Tribeca. The neighborhood is probably best known for the annual Tribeca Film Festival, which in a little more than two decades has become a major entertainment-industry event, but there’s much (much!) more to see and do here year-round.
Because Tribeca’s western border is the Hudson River, the neighborhood encompasses a stretch of Hudson River Park. Here, you’ll find Manhattan’s only 18-hole miniature golf course, basketball and sand volleyball courts, a skatepark, a playground, gardens, a dog run, and plenty of spots where you can sit and admire the sunsets over the river. Smaller parks and playgrounds dot the neighborhood as well. Should you need some R&R after your outdoor adventures, head to one of the numerous neighborhood spas. Aire Ancient Baths, for instance, offers massages and soaks in a former textile factory that’s been reimagined as Roman baths; Shibui Spa’s Drunken Lotus massage incorporates hot sake-infused towels.
Tribeca now rivals Chelsea and SoHo as a destination for gallery-hopping, and just about any neighborhood in the city for barhopping. When you want to slake a thirst, your options range from casual watering holes like Puffy’s Tavern and Nancy Whiskey Pub to chic hot spots such as Galerie Bar and Brandy Library. The selection of eateries is equally diverse: Tribeca is home to diners, Michelin-starred restaurants, and everything in between. And while it’s not a restaurant, we’d be remiss if we didn’t give a shout-out to Cricket’s Candy Creations, where kids can whip up their own sweet treats. Similarly, we can’t talk about Tribeca without mentioning what is probably its best-known landmark is the Beaux-Arts building that houses Hook & Ladder Company 8, aka the Ghostbusters Firehouse, headquarters of the titular troupe in the 1984 movie.
Plenty of other Tribeca spots are also worthy of mention, from live-music venues to unique boutiques, from indoor golf-training facility Golf v.2 to ceramic studio Bklyn Clay. One visit is all it takes to see why Tribeca is one of New York’s most desirable neighborhoods.
