Tribeca – Shopping

Tribeca has its share of stores dedicated to national and global brands—Thom Brown, J. Crew, Issey Miyake, Rag & Bone, Shinola—but the many independent shops contribute to its neighborhood feel. As per Tribeca’s family-friendly feel, there are also plenty of stores selling kids apparel as well. Unique shops to check out include Playing Mantis, My Little Sunshine (where little ones can get a haircut), Livly (specializing in apparel and homeware perfect for delicate skin), and more.

Lambert & Fils

Renowned for its handcrafted contemporary lighting, Montreal-based Lambert & Fils opened its Tribeca showroom in late 2020. In the airy and bright space, you’ll find the studio’s architectural fixtures and lamps, which incorporate elements such as brass, hand-blown glass, and the company’s proprietary sustainable LED technology to showstopping effect. Visits to the showroom, including a curation of Sympatico designers’ furnishings, are by appointment only.

Maeree

Another relative newcomer to the neighborhood, Maeree is about “ethical commerce”: All its home decor, fashion accessories, and jewelry are from artisanal brands that emphasize sustainability and social responsibility. Items such as striped blankets made of hand-spun cotton from Creative Women, a fair-trade company that works with women-led enterprises in Ethiopia and Bolivia; candlesticks from Urban Nature Culture crafted from recycled paper pulp; hand-knit alpaca scarves from Indego Africa; and richly textured jewelry hand-cast of recycled brass from Odette New York prove just how beautiful social responsibility can be.

LoLa TriBeCa

After working and living in Melbourne, Sydney, and London, Australia native Rachael Elderfield set up shop in Tribeca in 2019. Elderfield personally curates LoLa TriBeCa’s selection of jewelry and accessories, which are made by female designers and supporters of female artisans. Inside the petite (60 square feet!) boutique, you’re certain to find baubles, gems, and gifts you won’t see everywhere else in a vast range of price points.

A Uno Tribeca

This emporium draws customers from all parts of the city thanks to its selection of leading-edge, but highly versatile apparel from around the world. Most of the designers found at A Uno Tribeca are not household names in the States but may well be in just a few years. Dazzling hats from France’s Céline Robert, boldly cut jackets and tops from Croatia’s Igor, and asymmetrical, figure-flattering dresses from Japan’s Moyuru are among the highlights.

The Mysterious Bookshop

Claiming to be the country’s oldest store specializing in mystery fiction, the Mysterious Bookshop may be Tribeca’s best-known retailer. Here best-sellers by the likes of Lee Child, Agatha Christie, and John Connolly sit alongside lesser-known and decidedly quirky titles (case in point: The Maltese Jordans, about a detective hunting down a pair of jewel-encrusted sneakers worn once by Michael Jordan). With shelves chock-full of new and vintage books, first editions and signed copies, hardcovers, and paperbacks, it’s no mystery why this store has managed to thrive for more than four decades.
